Born during the Great Depression, Neville Wooderson grew up to become a motorcycle racer, plumber, adventurer and practical humanitarian.
His remarkable journey took him from racing in the 1953 Isle of Man TT to working alongside Sir Edmund Hillary and the Himalayan Trust in Nepal. Neville led the team responsible for building Khunde Hospital and contributed to schools, solar-heating systems, bridges, water supplies and other projects that improved everyday life in remote Himalayan communities.
Filled with nearly 300 photographs, Riding Through Life also tells the story of Neville’s family, his plumbing business, his lifelong love of motorcycles and the friendships and experiences that shaped him.
This is the story of an ordinary New Zealander who lived an extraordinary life—fuelled by passion, resilience and service.

Neville led the team that built Khunde Hospital in 1966. The hospital remains in operation, providing essential medical care to Sherpa families and people living in remote villages throughout Nepal’s Khumbu region.
